Adding A Barn Door

adding a barn door

Adding a barn door to your home may seem like an unusual idea, especially if you don’t live on a farm. But, barn doors are fast becoming one of the hottest interior design trends…no matter what kind of home you live in.

Here in Arizona, for example, many of the homes in our local neighborhoods have a Southwestern or Spanish vibe to them. Their tile roofs and sand-colored exteriors project a rustic appeal. When you walk inside, you are typically greeted with hard wood or tile flooring and lots of open archways. There is a definite and unique style to Arizona architecture.

One of the more noticeable features in Arizona homes is that open floor plan that flows from room to room. It truly creates a welcome and expansive feel. But, sometimes, you want to create a space that lends itself to some privacy. For instance, in your office or den. If you work from home, you need to be able to close a door so you can think, talk on the phone, or crunch numbers…whatever it is you do for a living. If your home office space has an open arch without a door, there is just no getting away from hearing the kids playing or the TV blaring. Adding a barn door could be the perfect solution to achieve that privacy you’re looking for.

In many contemporary Arizona homes, home builders are incorporating that open feel in the master bedroom suites, as well. It’s a great look, but it isn’t always practical when there isn’t a door on the master ensuite bathroom. For those of you with this type of set up, you know what we mean. No privacy. And, it’s a quite an inconvenience when one person gets up earlier than the other and has to shower. The light and the noise from the bathroom are a real nuisance. But, by adding a barn door to the master bathroom, this problem is solved.

There are so many other locations in your home that would benefit from the functionality of adding a barn door. And, as an added bonus, barn doors are unique and add a certain je ne sais quoi to your home décor. Adding a barn door can really work with so many interior designs. They are just a good look.
